The first “roof garden” in a Beijing bus terminal will open this year. It covers an area of 12,000 square meters and will serve the area residents with its multifunctional space.
The roof garden is built on top of the Guogongzhuang Bus Terminal and the adjacent parking building in Fengtai District. It covers an area of 12,000 square meters. When taking the lift to the top floor, visitors can see green grass and flowers blooming. there are about 30 plant species on the roof, and flowers blooming in spring, summer and autumn. There are many residential communities in the surrounding area. We make full use of the green space on the roof of the bus terminal to set up fitness trails, leisure corridors, basketball courts and other green leisure facilities, as well as different types of landscapes. The total area of this roof garden is 12,000 square meters. It will be the first roof garden built on top of a bus terminal in Beijing.
Zhao Xu, the leader of the site construction team, said the key to the construction of the roof garden is drainage:
A two-centimeter-thick drainage board was first laid on the roof to store water and drain water. It is covered with geotextile, and the soil is about 50 cm thick on top of the geotextile.
Since 2021, the Beijing Municipal Development and Reform Commission has successively approved the construction plans for 11 modern multi-storey bus terminals and promoted the construction of 14,000 square meters of convenient service facilities. These bus terminals are located in Chaoyang District, Fengtai District and Tongzhou District . For local residents, these bus terminal not only provide convenient transportation, but also a good place for sports and leisure. At the same time, we also provide parking spaces for locals residents.
